I'm rather surprised that Araby is being honest with her father about the situation and the guy she really cares about. You sure he doesn't care about you Araby? I think he does. Black scythe is the symbol of death, and red is rebellion, right? In any case, this "Prince Prospero" seems extremely cruel and selfish. But is the "Reverend Malcontent" any better? Or is he just as bad?

Well... that went from 0 to 100 very quickly. I guess now I see where the title comes from. But why does Elliot try to claim that Will can't be trusted if he says that Araby can't trust Elliot himself? Is the Weeping Sickness a virus as well? What does Araby's father know? Also, where is this Reverend Malcontent and why haven't we seen him?

Okay, black is rebellion, red is dead. But wow, a lot of things have just happened. Araby blames herself for a lot of bad things happening (mostly undeserved), but that scene between her and Elliot. Man, I feel called out. Oh, but she has the wrong address!

Man this is bleak. How is this book going to be part of a series? I kinda feel like there's a bit more telling than I'd like, but it's still pretty engrossing. And that dream with her lost twin brother Finn... Damn, that hurts. And yet, despite everything, she still wants to help those in need. But who was that guy April was kissing?

The first few pages are eerily silent. No spoken dialogue until page 4. It's rather unsettling. Maybe this was on purpose. Also, is Araby short for something? More importantly, what is in that silver syringe that she's willing to pay for? Some kind of drug?
