Sisman wrote two parallel travelogues of le Carre’s life: one, of the writer himself, is the authorized “John le Carre: the Biography,” which covers in great detail the background, family life, influences, and fiction of the writer. The second, which he waited until after the deaths of both the writer and his second wife, Jane, to publish, is this travelogue of the writer’s apparently near constant affairs.
