I would recommend any Shirley Jackson novel. The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle are her most notable works, but all her stuff is good in my opinion.

The Dunwich Horror by Lovecraft, I am Legend by Matheson.

If you love gothic, anything by Poe (The Fall of the House of Usher, Mask of the red Death, the Tell-tale heart)
