At this point Descartes has established the existence of himself (as a thinking thing), of the material things around him (via their immutable properties of identity despite their physical changes - wax example - the fact that he can conceive of and identify them despite his changing perception anchors them in his mind), of God (by denial of the possibility of infinite regress)
