I'm not entirely sure how to explain this but I feel like sometimes books when portraying a serious topic, even when done realistically and with the idea being raising awareness, sort of cross this line where they just get people talking about this fictional account without really managing to enact any change and it sort of takes power away from people who have a story to share?
