I am reading this book with my students as part of our Banned Books elective. Just under halfway through the graphic novel, I am noticing more than in my previous readings of this text the manifestations of trauma Vladek demonstrates. This includes his "apathy" toward his son's struggles/discomforts and his focus on appearances, such as when he throws away Artie's coat after deeming it too filthy to keep.
