This book really is capturing the innocence of a young child's mind, hungry for understanding of the world and of its parents and why their parents do what they do.
Tragedy strikes in such an early part that you're constantly left wondering what will happen next!
Also the book has more of a literary bend to it, compared to the realism drive of the first novel.

Very descriptive in his narrative, much more picture and flesh in this compared to the opening scenes of Maori Girl. So far so good. Poor old Paul. Lonely and without company and understanding. First the stray dog gets run over, then his rabbit is killed by a feral animal.
