I <3 Mikhail Bulgakov. The repetition of the phrase "The devil knows.." as an idiom is heavily over-used- I think even Vonnegut's "So it goes..." would be face-palming at this point. That aside, the over-sized cat who serves as an assistant to Satan may be on-par with Mephistopheles from Faust, if not surpassing Mephistopheles, as my favorite Satan assisting character. Really? A cat who drinks vodka? I'm in.

The first chapter is one of the best chapter I've ever read. Predicting the death and when Woland said he was having breakfast with Kant almost gave me chills, okay, they did give me chills.. "It was as if the thought of lung cancer pleasured him. He smiled softly".
