Lincoln’s words: “just what’s the matter with the whole world. I’ve got three walnuts and each wants two.”(regarding his two sons)
On democracy: “As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master.”

This is so good- timely; but reading is hard for me now so slow going.

Lincoln was for tariffs over taxes. “To abandon the protective tariff‘must result in the increase of both useless labor, and idleness.’” (P. 86)
Also, he was accused of being anti Christian, which he wasn’t.
This all in his first foray into politics (1846). Fascinating.

Amazing. For those saying these times are the worst— you know nothing. This country has always been violent with great hostility towards “the other”.

Fantastic. An excellent,accurate(before PC/woke bs) account of the man. A bi-polar, repressed man with a hero complex. Ambitious and strong. A reader, writer, and thinker driven to politics by his passion for Everyman.

Fantastic! Excellence in story telling- the writing, pacing, illustration, and of course, subject matter.
