Reading “And recently, he has hung one of Harrison’s jerseys among his hockey heroes” and immediately breaking down into ugly tears was not what I expected. I grew up with lots of hockey idols; Crosby, Fleury, Knight, and more but I didn’t hear about Harrison when he came out. I just feel so happy to hear there are boys who can look up to him, and so sad that I didn’t have that chance to feel less alone.

Love the history and analysis on checking in women’s hockey! I had always wondered about just *why* it wasn’t allowed in most women’s hockey leagues - an itching part of me suspected simple sexism, but I also knew it could be based off of opinions on safety from the players.

Interesting knowing it’s bc (assumed) wealth differences and sexism that resulted a gap in the training that many athletes received.

I’m gonna be honest the audiobook narrator is throwing me off sometimes when quoting other people’s statements. Like, don’t get me wrong, the impressions do not seem wildly off or anything, but it is jarring

the mention of marie-philip poulin had me so excited 🤭 and the use of this scene to point out the fact that size and skill level are different between all people is great!!

I love learning more of these details about trans athletes!
