It’s unfair to say it’s no ‘Rebecca’ because anyone who knows me knows I adore Rebecca.
There are touches of flair throughout but characters verge on the melodramatic Gothic but, of course, du Maurier tries to give the reader a strong female lead but she doesn’t quite hit the mark.
What is excellent is what du Maurier does best, nature, building trepidation, internal angst, and the hint of the unseen.
