The more of this I read the more conflicted I am. Is it a good book? I think so. Am I enjoying it? I think so. Am I confused? Extremely. Do I suspect a Shirley Jackson style reveal at the end that was obvious the whole time but exists only to point out that the real story was the insanity we observed along the way? Yeah.

You'd think an academic-fantasy that takes place in Hell would be interesting but so far I'm just bored and confused.

Why did I just read about a man's morningwood in my RF Kuang book? Don't do that to me, Rebecca. I don't like it.
