Everyday is like a puzzle with pieces scattered everywhere. When we go to sleep our mind puts the pieces together and helps us process the day. This is why it is so important for young kids to get plenty of sleep, they need to work through big events and emotions they may not be used to.
When you are able to discuss your trauma from start to finish it allows you to work through it and process it.

Kids look to their parents to ground their existence and understand reality. When children are feeling emotions it is important to identify those emotions and discuss it with your children. Ignoring the “bad emotions” will cause the child to feel dismissed and the loss of the resulting memory. Therefore the children do not learn how to deal with these emotions.
