This Splatterpunk Western by Rufty is a solid winner and no surprise it was nominated for best novel at the Splatterpunk Awards. Terror tale in the old west in goldrush times. This book is a designated Buddy Read on HGW right now. There is a sense of foreboding in this frigid snowcovered landscape where families and their young are stranded with no food and no hope.The native american folklore ratchets up the stakes.

I stopped at the next chapter mark but the bloody action at this juncture was so manic and explosive it was difficult to put the book down. The protagonists in this gore covered expanse of red snow do not have much hope to prevail at this point. Incredibly raw, naked, and brutal writing style from the talented Rufty. I could not begin to speculate how this horrific hypnotic tale of evil did not win best book.
