Not a terrible chapter. Not sure what the point is but had an interesting anecdote with Saucy Chief.

I think I have hit the plot of the story. Hopefully. The end of Chapter IX, Chal and Gus mother discuss the world and potential for war with the Germans (WWI Germany). The last paragraph he talks of flying with wings of a bird. Up to that point he was meandering in the White Man’s University unsure of what to do exactly. He understands his social limitations and feels awkward in group settings, especially with Bo.

So far it’s alright. I love the Osage of it all. The writing is nice but I’m confused every now and then about the plot and the purpose of the story.

I took a little break from this book. And coming back to it I found to enjoy it a lot more than I did the first time around. Love the setting and how the Chal’s thoughts are regarding Tradition but also a desire to expand beyond the reservation. Very excited to read more.
