Fiza Pathan I read this recently, just two or three years back. It changed my way of perceiving this psalm & understanding the Book of Job in the Old Testament. Great choice Bidisha & hope you find it useful. Happy Reading hours attend on you! Looking forward to your rating or review or both of this one. Diwali Greetings! Have fun! :)

Bidisha Ray Dear Fiza. Thank you and sending warm greetings your way. I was curious about Kushner's work ever since I came across him in the preface to Man's search for meaning, and I find his writing to be reassuring. I had read read your wonderful review and it further convinced me to read this book. It has lifted my spirits and restored me from a downward spiral into a meaningless life of vice.

I'm glad you found my review useful Bidisha & that you found solace in Kushner's book. When I was reading the book a few years back, I was grappling with a tough moment in my life as well, something related to being unjustly punished for something that was not my fault nor the fault of my highly saintly family members. Before reading the book, I tried studying the Book of Job as I mentioned before, but did not find the answers to those two insufferable questions - Why good people have to suffer & why bad things happen to good people? I found the answer in Kushner's book & I am better off because of it. I'm sure you will become an even better version of yourself after reading this book, & I am sure you are a person not so given into vice.

You are being too harsh on yourself when you mentioned that last line in your comment. You are a wonderful person with a lovely heart that no vice can tarnish or conquer - no vice can get the better of. We humans make vices, vices cannot define or mold a human being. We have the power to conquer & take great steps towards the betterment of ourselves & others - one day at a time - moment by moment; depending upon our mission in this lifetime.

Best of luck on your journey to rediscovery! If you need a GR friend, I am always there. God bless! :)

message 4: by Davit (new)

Davit 23rd Psalm of David, was my favourite one since very young age. Didnt know there was a book about it, interesting!
Matched with Isaiah 9:2 later on (after the 'dark night of my soul' phase of my life) are immensely powerful ones that served me as the kind of lighthouse on my soul's voyage, every time despair was getting too intense, 23rd was always there to cling on to. a ray of hope in the midst of snowstorm.
