honestly kind of struggling to parse out how i feel about this book. i find the choice to make this book an epistolary narrative for the purpose of it being a forbidden in-universe manuscript very interesting, but struggle to find a reason why give the job to a washed up remembrancer unless the purpose was to be able to obscure the contents should what he writes veer too far from imperial propaganda at the time.

the remembrancer "writing" this book going on a lengthy diatribe at the beginning of his manuscript abt the annoying way so many writers tend to be arrogant and then insisting HE isn't like that... chris wraight i know what you're doing
