I’m finding The Five both heartbreaking and illuminating. So far, I've read about Polly Nicholls and Annie Chapman. Hallie Rubenhold brings humanity and depth to women too often reduced to footnotes in history. Rather than focusing on the crimes, she explores their real lives within the wider social history of Victorian Britain — it has led me down some research rabbit holes about the locations of the time too!
