"It could have been Uncle Jerry, who enjoyed it too much, who got to do whatever he wanted. He loved giving group spankings, seemed to feed off the crying and screams. He loved to brag about how even Grandpa thought he was one of the best spankers in The Family. "Morales had been loaded into the back of the van alone because the drill sergeants hadn’t wanted to pull anyone else out of the march to be his battle buddy. He’d been found later lying in the road, apparently having fallen out of the van, by a couple of soldiers out for a late-afternoon run, who’d called the ambulance. Morales died in the hospital of a 106-degree fever."
