I have had terrible luck with her stuff. I have DNFed soooo many of hers. I can’t believe this is the same author.

I like her early books. But most of her recent stuff has been awful. I was already intrigued knowing she finally deviates from her formula—I was going to read it for that alone. But your mid-read take is making me even more curious.
