Well, that escalated. Glad they had a detective around - he could easily have been the main character of his own book, the way he conducted himself.

Maybe the whole party was in a bit of bad taste in the first place...

We're about halfway through and now the actual horror stuff finally kicks in. It's been mostly just drama and suspense till this point, but here come the ghosts and evil overlords and real weird shit. Long buildup and we're not even close to the rock-bottom. Gotta say I'm enjoying myself.

As a fellow writer, very glad to see someone overcome writer's block. Maybe I should get back to doing something myself.

Rich old jerk as a villain. Gotten used to always getting what he wants. Menacing a young widow and her kid. You don't even need any ghosts or psychics to get effective horror out of such a premise.

I don't have a writer's block and I feel like I'm taking that for granted. I should get back to writing stuff.

Real nice, Stephen, I pick up a book looking forward to ghosts and other spooky supernatural stuff, and you instead open up with a very real mundane threat that could happen to anyone at any time. This wasn't the kind of scared I was looking forward to feel.

Pretty good start otherwise, though. Always liked the more lemony type of a narrator. The narrator is a character.
