I kinda liked the general story. I didn't like that Gurney tells everyone his real motivation. I always pictured him more silent and subtle. The ending was terrible and could have been easily fixed. Why did Gurney go undercover to Arrakeen? I know he is vengeful but he isn't stupid. The ending would have been so much better out of Rabbans perspective - like a Harkonnen Red Wedding.

I did enjoy this story more than the first one! It has some reasonable character development. I also really like the pacing and how it changes from the Battle of Arrakeen to the story of the Sardaukar. Though I am always a bit confused when they add more political conflicts to Letos past, I think this one actually makes kind of sense and explains how he got more influence in the Landsraad.

As with most of the Expanded Dune Universe I am glad to have an excuse to dive into this world! The first story has a lot of old-school dune action that reminds me of the Harvester Attack from the movie. It also has some weird and confusing politics and character motivation that makes 0 sense (Why hate Abulurd Harkonnen the first overseer who isn't cruel? Let him be incompetent I say!).
