Chapter one- summed up the feeling of jealousy very well. Introduced characters in great depth and a lot happened in such a short space of time. Definitely want to keep reading

Is it bad that I am really starting to find June annoying? She needs to be honest with herself about what she has done. Rebecca Kuang has written this brilliantly as you can feel the denial dripping from the pages. It’s a brilliant insight also to how modernisation and technology has affected authors and now they can see what people truly think. The good, the bad and the downright cruel!

My goodness when I thought that she has been found out just then. Honestly I can see where people are coming from. Your Chinese friend dies and you release a book about Chinese culture. Definitely a bit fishy! I don’t think June’s mental health can cope with all the bad publicity so I am starting to think that the pressure gets too much and she outs herself. Will be interesting to see what happens!

Finally reaping the rewards but is it entirely worth it? Seeing Athena sat at her first book reading must’ve been so traumatic and proof that she is guilty for benefitting from an idea that wasn’t hers. Intrigued and still want to keep reading.

A really good example of how to convince yourself that you’re doing something right when you perhaps aren’t. I am intrigued about Candice and I think she knows or suspects something. Definitely makes more sense Athena writing the plot than June but stranger things have happened.

Definitely feels wrong for her to take credit for Athena’s book but I completely understand why she did it. It came from pure intentions and then the craving for the life she believed she should have came just above it. I do hope she tells the truth and gives Athena the credit she deserves. We shall see what happens!
