Really liked The Tooth, found it brilliantly unsettling and unnerving and frantic, reminded me of some of the best parts of Hangsaman, definitely one of the best stories in here. Got a letter from Jimmy is so good, short and sweet and punchy. Just got the lottery left now, saving it for the train on Monday!

"no one even noticed me, she thought with reassurance, everyone who saw me has gone by long ago" I think Pillar of Salt is my favourite story in this book so far, it so perfectly captures the feeling of being unsure if the world outside is wrong, or if the world in your head is wrong. Feeling strange in a city and a leg washing up on the beach. Really really quietly unsettling and real

The flower garden is a really really good one, takes a very unique perspective and framing to examine racism, using the lens of a bitter racist person to other and alienate the idea of someone who isn't racist. The sailor story similarly plays on perspective and how bitter busybody adults can imbed irrational crippling anxiety and fears into children
