I loved this book! I had no previous knowledge of the history of Russia in this period. The book was engaging throughout. The character and life of Catherine came alive in these pages. I especially loved the excerpts from her own writing and letters. Wonderful glimpse into the evolution of Catherine from her late teens through her remarkable reign as empress of Russia.
