i was hoping that the story would somehow make a statement on how morbid it was that everyone accepted “mercy killing” over “premeditated murder”. he confessed but no arrest was made. and w/o her cooperation they still wouldnt charge him!? her pov was so crucial. not that she was obligated to, but the important of defense unfortunately lies with the wronged and ppl w/disabilities deserve autonomy and voices

and these two non-desi american editors of this book had a response about just colonialism from the story? it was like 6 pages of desi refs and desi jokes and they spoke 3/4 of a paragraph on vamipirism diseases and then said samira took it a step further and brought colonialism into vampires? the fuck? thats all you got from that? its giving racist and im less than impressed with this addition. feels forced :|

so samira ahmed wrote the most stereotypical and micro-aggression filled short story ever. this was so hard to read, its giving aunty with a hard desi accent. the references amongst the british english made it so obvious that a fluent foreign desi did not author this story. the tone of voice is similar to a low-tiered romcom with cheap jokes and chaotic emotions and in the end, a deep sentimental monologue
