It’s really so nostalgic and heartwarming, the love and care put into describing the living and growth. Dickon would make an excellent hobbit.

Though I’m sure now I didn’t read this as a child, nor was it read to me, it definitely strikes a cord. Mary’s growth through exploring the gardens/house, utilizing her imagination and sense of adventure, is a major parallel to my own childhood. It’s nostalgic and uplifting.

in my head since childhood I thought this book was all whimsy and childish adventure. obviously not bc the sheer amount of RACISM is INSANE dear lord.
