It’s more interesting now, but I don’t like any of the characters. Solomon’s ok, but he’s not around much.🤷♀️

I have seen mixed reviews. I am not a huge Brandes fan to begin with, but I heard this was her debut, so….🤷♀️

You might have a wait a bit for it to pick up but tbh I’m no longer an advocate for pushing through so it’s tot up to u but I believe it is slow starting. What part r u on?
Since my update, she met the albino independents, so it’s picked up some. It’s a strange read, though. The only thing keeping me going is the fact that I don’t have another audiobook that’s a “free read.”
I found it to be sort of slow and hard to get into as well, but my 12 year old devoured it. I think I'm just too old for it, maybe?
Wow, Becky, your *12-year-old*? I can’t imagine being 12 and suffering through the boredom of that very long beginning. I think I was at least at 40% in before it started picking up. It’s more interesting now, but I am not loving it.

It’s more inte..."My kids are homeschooled and read a lot of the classics for school so I guess she either found it less boring than them, or she's used to the boringness because of how slow they tend to be sometimes?
But I read classics too and I found it hard. The only thing that really kept me reading was the clock. It was the hook but with the "not sure whose clock it is" it kind of also wasn't as strong of a hook for me as it could have been.
I prefer a little deeper theological message if it's going to be there at all and this one was a little troubling to me at times, sometimes ripped verses out of context, and sometimes was more shallow. Over all, I ended up reading the whole trilogy, but I mostly finished because my kids were starting it and I wanted to know what it was about. But I don't think I'd recommend it or read it again.
I remember being confused, and also liking it a bit towards the end- but this one exhausted me so much that I couldn’t even finish the series. 🫣 and I’m with you Sharon … I always want to like her books, but I always walk away like meh what am I missing?!?
Becky—yes, sometimes her theological messages are lost on me. I never did “get it” in Wishtress. In this one, I can’t figure out if the Bible verses and prayers are supposed to show Parvin’s spiritual immaturity or what…🤷♀️ She and Jude drive me bonkers with their lack of communication, arguing, AND liking each other.
Brittany—it *is* exhausting!🤭 I won’t be finishing the series, and that’s unusual for me. I normally love Brandes’ characters, but not necessarily the writing. “Meh” would be my description of her writing too.🙂↕️
