This doesn’t feel like the beginning of a story, but the middle and I’m not liking any of the characters. F’lor and F’nor. Why give characters names that are easily mixed up. I just nicknamed them L and N to keep them straight. I’m not sure I like Lessa either. Dialogue is a bit stilted but the world building isn’t bad. And I’m curious about why a female dragonrider is required.

Even baby dragons are dangerous! Ramoth the baby golden dragon. No wings yet. I just started part II. Not book two. Part II of book 1. This Searching involved baby dragons choosing boys. So girls AREN’T required then? There are male dragonriders because L and N are riders and they have apostrophes in their name. Maybe it’s a mate thing?

Dragons were breeded to fight Threads and the people have become complacent over the years. Because the threat of the Threads only occur every so often. That’s it. That’s all I need to know right now and that could’ve been told in a paragraph or two. I don’t need to know all that other stuff yet! That prologue is leaving a bad first impression.

It begins with a 4-page “once upon a time” prologue that dumps information that simply can’t be relevant right now. And there’s sci-fi stuff too! The only thing I need to know right now is that the planet is in danger of sky-borne Threads. I’m glad those were defined because I was definitely imagining sewing strings.
