Huh. I'm beginning to think schools and colleges assign the 1830's edition. The writing style in the 1818 text is different, less Romantic and whiny. I actually like reading this text. May have to reread the 1830's one at some point to test this theory.

It is really striking me that the creature is basically an eight foot tall and extremely strong toddler. I've read this book many times, written many pages on it, and it still holds surprises for me.

This particular edition has a number of typographical errors. Often a c is used instead of e. I doubt his cars heard bird calls.
