I’ve been struggling with epic/dark fantasy books for the last half-decade or so but the exceptions to that were Priest of Bones, Blood's Pride, and The Waking Fire.

I also quite enjoyed The Kingdom of Liars but only ever read the first book in the series. Guess I really need to get back to that series now that the trilogy is complete!

I’ve been overdosing on LitRPG and Romantasy of late but I definitely need to get back into some old school epic fantasy.


That reminds me, if you are interested in a bit of slow burn romance in a sort of darker fantasy setting then This Monster of Mine might be worth a go. I found it a bit slow in the early stages but was really sucked into it by the end!

Thank you for the recommendations, its been a tad annoying not being in the mood for Fantasy as it's my favourite genre. I miss it dearly, I just need to find ways to block out real world and real life issues and escape.

Books are the best type of escapism for sure. I actually think it is why I’ve always preferred fantasy, sci-fi or historical romance to contemporary fiction. It is fun to be sucked into a completely different world!
