Physical aggression is not hot. This kind of man is not a safe man. And yet depressingly, this series probably owes much of its popularity to reader swooning over the male lead. Just finished chapter 27, which is devoted almost entirely to a sex scene that runs for 20 Kindle pages. Twenty pages, every move minutely described. It could be sloths having sex. :|

I'm tired of all these toxic 'alpha possessive' male leads. It's 2025 already. Can we please finally move on to something healthier?

I don't normally read books in this genre, but in a past status update Marquise said this depiction is common. I think this series may not be the worst of this depiction either, amazingly. (The author did craft a strong female lead... although the female lead still needs the direction and protection of this male lead, so that supposed strength is less convincing.) It's upsetting that female readers, including many who consider themselves feminists, are attracted to aggressive, sexist men.
