Also this book would have flowed so much better as an impartial or switching-focus third person narrative instead of first person, seeing as the moment a conversation arises the first person hardly speaks themself and shrinks into the background. Plus, first person just kills all suspense.
At the very least there should be no POV switching.

I just realised the Goodreads description starts with “Pay attention and you might just solve this”. I’m on page 140 and I already have. And even then it’s so eye-roll worthy and painstakingly nonsensical that I just – well. Nothing is adding towards the reveal either, so there’s no “paying attention to solve it” it’s just a fucking guess.

It’s so obviously Addy that I can just tell it’s going to end up not being Addy. How frustrating.

McManus struggles to keep a characters voice; eg. Addy knows the word salvation, but not intent. ???

Bronwyn the Mary Sue. Were introduced to her performance anxiety and frustration over playing the piano only to have it resolved IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE (her sister and then Nate who she only reconciled with YESTERDAY) where suddenly she’s solved the piece she’s stuck on.
Nate says it was the best thing he’s ever heard.

Some things are just too on the nose like “Welp, I’m an asshole, I know” and it’s just. Ugh. And the clique culture is very outdated in the way it’s being portrayed. This isn’t The damn Breakfast Club.

Cheesy and sanitised. Overdramatic. All like it’s just *waiting* to be picked up and put on a screen. That’s all I can explain it as so far – that’s how it’s written. Like it’s meant to be watched, not read.
