It's unexpected that all four of them are casually fluent in Spanish, something that hasn't even been mentioned in the previous book so far as I recall; side-effect of the Spanish wars? Apparently this was considered sufficiently unremarkable for the era that no explanation was expected, unlike Athos' fluent English or Groslow's three years of French...

In chapter 61, d'Artagnan complains that Athos is exaggerating the case when he accuses him and Porthos of helping the Puritans kill their King ("nous n'en sommes pas là"); in chapter 63 it is d'Artagnan who predicts the King's execution from what he had heard from Oliver Cromwell, while Athos seems to doubt it...

I hadn't realised that Athos and Aramis are apparently only in England for eight days before the King is captured - I had more or less assumed from Athos' letter and the close relationship in which they stand with the King that they had been in the middle of the war for months!
