why am i abt to cry over nancy rn. i am at WORK

why do so many books from the 1800s have no place names?? like any town names are either only the first letter or just a little dash. why

its interesting that this book has a similar setup to jane eyre (outsider girl joins mean family with tyrant little boy) but i definitely prefer agnes grey bc she has more autonomy, which to me is more interesting to read abt. but also i haven't read much of jane eyre either so i can't really judge
