Anyone ever tell you to read Daphne Du Maurier? (I assume Rebecca is the most popular recommendation) Well, I started my journey from here because these are short stories, so that means easily digestible, right? WRONG! The sense of dread is simply impossible to describe from the very first short story. It's so good, everyone should read du Maurier.

The Border-Line Case

"For only by hating can you purge away love, only be sword, only by fire."

I don't want to spoil this for anyone, but damn, is this story BRIMMING with daddy issues. That is to say, I don't dislike it though.

Not after midnight is a peculiar and confusing story.
The way I understood it, the main character became obsessed with the Stolls, and as a result became "cursed" (sick?) with tendencies to pederasty, alcoholism and insatiable greed. Whether this is due to supernatural causes we don't know for sure but it is somewhat implied.
It is a chilling tale with some murder mixed in there as well. Not for the faint of heart.

Not After Midnight (Story #2)

Damn, what do people even do with their vacation time in Crete?

An English teacher encounters a young American couple during his vacation in Crete. The couple warns him to not do anything, "not after midnight".

But seriously, you have all this time in the world to spare in wonderful Agios Nikolaos and you go and do what? Waste it away in cheap complaints and useless tailings.
