I feel like this book reads like a Sunday special about racism in the police force and a lot of the characters feel like cardboard stock characters and I don’t really feel connected to the story or the main character. Also I feel like you can tell that this story is written by a white woman, the constant this is happening because i’m black is not relatable to me? or am i crazy I feel like some scenes can speak -

— he obviously has nothing to do with the crime and that’s obvious and they found the guy so what? and the constant repetition of going to police station then going to dinner with Ellen then naturally he gets stopped and she scared and blah blah blah
