The main character and his partner Ishmael have just met capitan Ahab, there is something about this character that just speaks eccentricity, the fact that he holds a grudge against a white sperm whale who bit his leg off. Ishmael had a dream where he was kciked by Ahab's whale bone leg, he is clearly afraid of Ahab.

Steinbeck also does a great job of making the characters relatable, I had an emotional connection to Tom Joad and I ended up in tears when I finished the book.
The Grapes of wrath is my book of the year due to the fact that it captivated me so much that it completely broke me down emotionally.

I would reccomend the book The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck because Steinbeck does a great job at captivating the audience with amazing use of literary devices such as similes and metaphors to foreshadow. The plot of this story is very interesting with many unsuspected turns and twists.

From explaining the plot of this book, which is essentially a capitan who becomes obsessed with getting revenge on the whale who bit off his leg, to giving references to Melville himself.

We find out that he is sells shrunken heads and the In keeper says that they are the heads of this man's enemy. Ultimately this makes Ishmael now does not want to share a room with him and insists that he sleep on a bench in the tavern.
