My book of the year is "The Dawn of Wonder" by Jonathan Renshaw
1 The author did an amazing job of making small victories for the main character seem much larger than they were
2 The author focused entirely on the main character and the world around him, rather than giving the reader more insight, we knew just as much as the main character
3 In a world surrounded in magic and the such, it is remarkably simple

The review I found for the story was on Bookpage.com, and mostly compared this book to the previous one in the series, Six of Crows. "Just as violent and thrilling as Six of Crows but tempered with more mature, quiet moments, Crooked Kingdom is an immensely satisfying follow-up."

Kaz and friends have been screwed over. The plan to destroy the silos of sugar owned by Van Eck was a failure, and now they are wanted across the city by literally everyone. Prices have been put on their heads, and Kaz's nemesis Peka Rollins bribed every gang in the city to take out Kaz, even Kaz's own gang, the Dregs has turned against him. Yet he is trying to find one last way to save his crew.

So far, the plot has kind of just been all over the place. In the previous book in this series, one of the main characters was kidnapped at the end of the book. However, Inej was rescued by the second chapter, and now her crew is trying to reveal the brutality of the merchant who had captured her to the public, as well as rob him of everything he owns. It doesn't fit in with where the story should have gone.

At home I generally read just before I go to bed, and due to my wonderful insomnia I usually read for 3-4 hours at a time. I used to read hard copy books, but since I ran out of shelf space, I just read digital books on my kindle. I generally read pretty fast, as I have finished over 500 books on my kindle, even though I've only had it for about 2 years.
