The man horse was running up and down the alley at a stoop, scanning every gutter, its lean body quivering with agitation. The sheep skull was also stumbling about the lane, no longer capering, twisting this way and that in search. The radish was nowhere to be seen.
And then the arctic silence of that realization was broken by a clear, crisp sound.

Mosca wondered if she was the only person who remembered that Paragon was a person in his own right, regardless of whether he was lucky or not, and right now possibly a frightened and ill-treated person. Then again, given that he had lived under lock and key for nearly all his life, perhaps his existence actually had been improved by being kidnapped. It would certainly have made it less monotonous.
