the way I do not breathe everytime I read 5 pages from this book 😭

“At ease, Corporal.” There was such dry good humor in her voice, such natural authority, that something in me eased, instinctively. I never missed the war, but I missed the sense that someone else, someone better and braver, held the reins of my life.

I laughed, poorly. “The whole reason I was sent here in the first place—the one real duty I could have done for my country—and I couldn’t do it.” I looked down, spread my hands in another shrug. “Coward.”
