If I was a bit freaked/grossed out by the opening chapter, is that indicative of the book’s whole vibe or nay?

Kate wrote: "If I was a bit freaked/grossed out by the opening chapter, is that indicative of the book’s whole vibe or nay?"The Sappers specifically don't come up that much in the rest of the book, but it does stay pretty intense with regard to threats of horrible punishment/people pushed to varying levels of physical extremis/violence + people being wounded and killed in disparate and sometimes disgusting ways/creepy dead body stuff.
