Knowing my tastes and my age are different to others. I may not vibe with a 20 year old, being 41, sometimes I don't vibe with a 35 year old. Being aware the hype is a gamble whether you'll like it because it's a good story or feel disappointed it wasn't worth the hype you built up.
I'm planning on waiting a bit on books, not buy right away and see what is said or wait till the hype dies off to get my own reaction to it. FOMO is exhausting and it takes the joy out of reading a book I think will be fun. I don't have to be apart of the hype to like a book. Sometimes it doesn't hurt but expectations and the result, can put you in a slump or hate a genre/troupe.
Of course mid books are being hyped and great ones are not being talked about so much. It's important to find reviewers you mesh with to gage whether you would love it or not.
