Please. Don’t. Judge. Captivated the other day by two fave pop culture icons - Stephen Colbert & Robert Plant - slip into youthful, joyful discussion over a shared love for J.R.R. Tolkien & thought, “Hmm, I remember slogging through his books as a teen trying to keep up with my peers…” and so, here I am at 58, loving a return to an innocent mind rereading (listening to) & loving a global classic. Wow...who knew?!

A reminder that these are worth a revisit! Didn’t love them as a youngster, but maybe now?

Totally worth a revisit, yes. Fun, escapist tale that I kinda read years ago in high school, but really just to keep up with peers in an effort to appear being 'cool' as any young teen does. Funny how, for some reason, a quick Insta reel with Colbert and Plant got me to think that if those 60+ and awesome guys are geeking out over Tolkien, perhaps I should revisit his works as well. Never been much of a fantasy fiction guy, but I am totally loving the Phil Dragash audio version of LoTR complete with music and sound effects that provide a cinematic type experience. Highly recommend!
The bonus impact of listening to this one is that it has somehow opened back up a bit the door to my 14 year old self to the point where I mentally have one foot in that part of my life - young, naive, inexperienced etc... - with the other in my current 58 year old world. Honestly, I think the opportunity and ability to reflect on the span of life and all its adventures as prompted by this literary classic is the greatest gift it's giving me!
