Let me be worthy of the second chance she's offering, when I deserve none at all.

We were two halves of a whole, destined to walk through this life and all others to come, united by a love that was as timeless as it was powerful.

"Drake," Luna called after me. I paused but didn't turn around. "The fates rarely bind what isn't meant to endure. Remember that when the breaking comes."

Wills? I nearly snapped the handle off a decorative candleholder. No one should be abbreviating her name like that. It was Willow—two perfect syllables, like the tree that bends but never breaks.

"Because the stars align as they did once before. Because history needs breaking, not repeating." Her hand brushes mine briefly, and a jolt of ancient power passes between us. "And because I promised a dying woman I would watch over her granddaughter when the time came."

He steps closer, and the garden seems to hold its breath. "I notice everything about you, Willow. It's becoming something of a problem, actually."

I grab for the book but he holds it just out of reach, because apparently we're twelve.

“Your mouth had better not touch another man’s body other than my own. Do you understand?” I ground out.

"Fine," he said after a long moment. "Keep your date." His smile showed just a hint of fang. "But know this-I don't share what's mine. And mate bond or not, I play the long game. I've had centuries of practice at getting what I want."

"Must be exhausting, fighting everything on principle."
