“No one is just a victim or a victor. Everyone is somewhere in between.”

I cannot fathom so repeatedly prioritizing reputation over the well being of family, friends and love. But that is what makes Evelyn a fascinating character. She is flawed and it leads to more heartbreak, just oftentimes it’s not hers.

I have mixed feelings about her sudden decision to be present for her daughter.

“Which is about the cruelest thing you can do to someone you love, give them just enough good to make them stick through a hell of a lot of bad.”

This book missed a major opportunity for relationship drama & intrigue by completely bypassing the phase of pregnant Evelyn.
