Post WW2, the main character is a traumatized young man that has lost his family and fled to London where an elderly cousin can vouch for him to attain safety at Thorne House. He has pledged fealty to Master Thorne in exchange for residence and the promise of magic. My concern is their “shadow magic” will turn “black” which is something I am not interested in. I guess we’ll see.

If you’ve ever lost someone you’ve cared very deeply about, this book will draw on that pain, make you feel that loss all over again. The feeling of you yourself also wanting to die because of it. Not to the end yet. We’ll see how it all turns out. Still not sure how I feel about the “shadow magic”.
