So far, this is trying WAY too hard to be ominous. Not only do we have the tour guide giving strong warnings, we also have your stereotypical "old creepy harbinger". Additionally, the author has set up some of the stereotypical horror characters, including the smart one who will probably have a great idea along the way but be totally ignored. I hope I'm wrong, but only a deeper dive will tell.
