Glad you're enjoying it, man. All-time favorite, six-star masterpiece for me. I loved that long conversation (over fish soup?) between Ivan and Alyosha, and it probably helped that I think I was exactly Ivan's age (23) when I read it. I'm due for a reread.

Right?!Man, I have had this on my shelf for years and just recently (finally) opened it--at 41! I can't put it down or stop thinking about it. I just keep imagining what this would have been like to read in serial installments at the time, where and how the chapters were discussed among the public.
It must have been like the hot prestige HBO show of its day. If I remember correctly, this was FMD's last novel, and he was pretty well-known by this time. I'm sure there were tons of people reading and talking about it as it came out.
