Lake Ontario *has* rip currents and undertows. The Great Lakes are NOTORIOUS for killing people because of the currents, among other things, and Lake Ontario's currents are especially hungry to sweep swimmers out into deeper water. Someone who lives anywhere near the Great Lakes should know this.

I don't know why I keep reading 1st POV books. I don't like that they tend to just... drop things on you like that.
